New build homes deliver huge energy savings

Jul 6 2023

When you purchase your apartment at The Lock at Greenford Quay, you can save an average of £135 a month on energy costs, whilst helping to reduce the country’s carbon emissions by 500,000 tonnes a year. This is according to new research from Home Builders Federation (HBF), which reveals that new build homes are powered by 55% less energy than older properties.

HBF’s ‘Watt a Save July 2023’ report finds that new builds consistently achieve high energy performance levels. All of Telford Homes’ apartments have an Energy Performance Certificate of B, compared to the national average of D, meaning these modern properties have annual running costs that are 56% lower than the national average.

The findings also illustrate the benefits of modern building practices, technology and products, and industry’s commitment to greener, environmentally conscious construction. In line with this, Telford Homes has carefully designed homes at The Lock at Greenford Quay, using high building fabric efficiencies, photovoltaic panels and renewable energy where possible to achieve 36.8% of regulated emissions, all which champion our Building a Living Legacy Strategy.

The report marks Net Zero Week, which is celebrated from the 1st of July to the 7th of July this year. The week is marked as a calendar moment designed to help us all better understand the current climate challenge and how to benefit from making changes. At Telford Homes, we have taken proactive steps to simplify and define our sustainability goals – we became one of the first developers to set out a clear roadmap to becoming a zero-carbon developer by 2030.
